MY METHODOLOGY
MURAL INSPIRATION
Inspired by Philadelphia’s history of beautiful murals, I chose to make select accent walls in shared areas and one wall in each classroom as a mural wall. Taking HU’s branding palette and applying gradient maps to varying sections made for Blending student photos and sights of the city into one.
BINARY CODE
I broke down the elements into images, phrases, and value keywords. The Inspirational phrases, quotes, and keywords were translated into binary code. Each code was used in a configuration along with its typographical translation. The code was composed in varying sizes from left to right and top to bottom. Then, to lighten the visual weight in the Binary patterns, specifically for white walls where they would exist on their own, I varied individual characters by tint, adding more white to blend with the white vinyl background creating gradual shifts in density of the groups of characters for the viewer.
COLOR
Balancing HU’s palette and the accented red was done carefully throughout the campus. Incorporating binary characters of varying opacity over gold-to-white gradient mapped photos I wanted the ability to make areas of the murals lighter weight all photos, varying color opacity and tint when constructing phase/binary elements, and balanced walls positive and negative space when
